Employer Bio:
Our client is a successful, busy and growing business with a focus on clean, wholesome food and produce that is ethically and locally sourced. Offering friendly service and premium product through a network of successful cafés, there is a high focus on quality and service, but also in having fun. While they’re a small, passionate team who are focused on meeting customer and business needs, due to persistent demand, we currently have an opportunity for a Sous Chef to start immediately on a full time, ongoing basis.

The Job:
As the Sous Chef, you’ll be instrumental in assisting to run all aspects of the kitchen and will thrive working in a fast paced operation, handling yourself well under pressure. Working closely with the Head Chef and within a small team environment to ensure consistently high quality products, you’ll provide support in supervising and managing the day to day operations and wider team. Helping to make working in the team fun and productive, you’ll ensure products are prepared consistently and according to standard. Rostering, assigning responsibilities to others and checking their performance periodically, you’ll assist in the training and guidance of kitchen staff, mentoring the developing Chefs in your team and oversee weekly ordering and stock control. You’ll also supervise HACCP compliance, keeping accurate food safety records, ensure hygiene and cleanliness standards are maintained at all times and take charge of the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef to ensure smooth operations. Hours of work will be 6:30am – 2:30pm Sunday – Thursday.

Benefits On Offer:
Coming out of Winter, this role offers excellent working hours, great working conditions, great pay rates and ongoing opportunities. Most in the kitchen team have worked together for years, with a really high retention rate, so that speaks volumes. You’ll be able to knock off well in time to still get to the beach or spend time with family. With an awesome team culture this thriving business is seriously going places. Immediate start available.

Culture Snapshot:
This working environment is one of the best out there. Collaborative, supportive, friendly, trusting and engaging. On one hand the environment is relaxed, casual, down to earth and fun, but on the other, activity is fast paced and the team works hard.

Skills Required:
Physically fit, self motivated and dependable, you’ll ideally have a minimum of 3 years continuous experience working in a fast paced café or catering style environment, and a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent). Ideally with previous supervisory experience in a similar position in a fast-paced, bulk production environment, you’ll have an uncompromising attitude towards quality food production and presentation. Taking pride in maintaining consistency and presentation standards, you’ll observe a proper regard of food safety practices, have good time management and strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to multitask, you’ll also have good people skills and a commitment to developing employees, and you can comfortably lead from the front and by example. With the confidence to promote ideas and make sound decisions under pressure, you enjoy working in an energetic team environment but know where to draw the line with team members. Having a strong attention to detail and the desire to produce high quality operational and administrative outcomes, you’ll also be keen to develop and progress within a growing company. Qualifications/ certificates in HACCP, local food handling and hygiene would be advantageous.
