About the Opportunity:
The Food Category Manager role is responsible for influencing consumer demand to deliver new means of competitive advantage and value generation. Positively contributing to supplier relationships through identifying and implementing agreed strategies to grow the food and coffee categorises, you’ll develop, lead and execute strategic customer centred category plans, optimise value outcomes and meet all stakeholder needs and expectations on sales, profit and market share growth, based on quality business analysis and research. Driving cost savings and category thought leadership to unlock growth, you’ll achieve a high level of performance across all promotional campaigns and seasonal product launches. You’ll assist to build content, support marketing offers across digital platforms, and execute creative production. Leading supplier negotiations on contracts, costs and best prices in order to deliver the best possible category and supply outcomes, you’ll develop effective planograms, develop food products, packaging and equipment, and be responsible for space allocation, and product analysis and performance. You’ll also contribute to the food safety program, kitchen production management, implementation of training modules and recipe book development and updates. Playing an important role within internal and external category management teams and working groups, you’ll work collaboratively with various cross functional teams to ensure a high standard of new product development, product presentation, promotion, conversion and customer experience. You’ll also manage products to ensure consistent supply by identifying, remedying and mitigating potential risks and resolving customer or store issues promptly and effectively.
With a passion for food, coffee, the customer and for delivering strong results, you’re ready to bring your proven commercial acumen to a business in which your input would be invited and recognised. Both hands-on and strategic in your approach, you thrive on using new knowledge and data to create meaningful and useful intelligence. Experienced in strengthening vendor relationships, you have a proven history of driving revenue and profitability by collaborating with external stakeholders and other business functions. With strong analytical and interpretive skills and accomplished influencing, written and verbal communication skills, you’re capable of understanding the impact of decision making on the business and are a keen problem solver and lateral thinker. Having had previous experience in food category management and sales, preferably within a multi-site operation, you’ll ideally be complemented by tertiary qualifications in Retail, Sales, Marketing, Business Management (or a related discipline), or have had equivalent on the job experience within a comparable environment. You’ll have experience with online delivery platforms, food safety and handling practices, recipe building and food costing and have sound equipment knowledge. An engaging, personable and confident person with good energy and a positive mindset, you’re a proactive relationship builder and work effectively with others to achieve business goals. You have excellent planning and prioritising skills and you know how to apply and drive business analytics to measure performance results and develop and deliver strategic sales marketing campaigns that pack a punch!
