The Job:
Join a growing team, in a new Geelong office (for an established national accounting firm), in a great part time capacity (Mon – Fri school hours), and be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, ensuring their financial and accounting needs are adhered to while providing outstanding service. With plenty of direct client contact, you’ll be involved in tax planning strategies for clients, and will be preparing all financial reports including profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow statements, reconciliation to budget, capital additions and expenditure. Attending to the preparation of year-end financial data and submissions to government and statutory bodies such as the ATO/ ASIC etc (monthly/ quarterly BAS(s), income tax returns) for a wide range of entity types, you’ll ensure that the workflow of the small team reporting to you is managed and completed to a high standard, and that first class service is provided to all clients. Managing the preparation of month end reconciliations, you’ll ensure that entries are made accurately and on time to meet reporting deadlines, and ensure that your activities comply with legal, professional, and ethical standards. Successfully developing client relationships, you’ll also undertake accounting, taxation and other relevant research when required, and lead others by setting and demonstrating clear direction and modelling best practice.

Skills Required:
With a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field, IPA/ CPA/ CA qualifications and significant experience in a public practice accounting environment, you’ll be accustomed to managing expectations and have well-honed leadership and people skills. Having been responsible for overseeing the work of others and contributing to their professional development, you’ll be able to supervise and mentor junior staff and effectively manage competing priorities. A self-starter who can work efficiently to deadlines, you have strong problem solving capabilities for addressing complex financial issues and you’re confident in delivering strategic recommendations. With proven experience managing a diverse portfolio of clients, delivering accounting, taxation, auditing and advisory services and with excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication skills, you’ll have a proactive and analytical approach to work and a willingness to become involved in some business development. Having a reasonable level of computer literacy across the Microsoft Office suite, you’ll have deeper skills and knowledge of cloud computer packages such as MYOB, QuickBooks and Xero and be able to use MYOB AE, MYOB System Release or equivalent packages. You also ensure you stay current with accounting standards, tax laws and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and in order to provide updated client advice.
